The predecessor of School of Architecture and Urban Planning,Suzhou University of Science and Technology,was Department of Architecture of the former Suzhou Urban Construction and Environmental Protection College,which was affiliated with theMinistry of Construction whichwas established in 1985.Mr.Zhang Jiaji,a famous architect,landscape architect and architectural educator,presided over the establishment of the Department of Architecture and served as the first dean of the department.

The college currently has a first-level doctoral program in Urban and Rural Planning;three first-level master programs in Architecture,Urban and Rural Planning and Landscape Architecture;three professional master programs in Architecture,Urban and Rural Planningand Landscape Architecture;three undergraduate majors in Architecture,Urban and Rural Planningand Landscape Architecture.

The discipline group of "Urban and Rural Planning and Management"with urban andrural planning and architecture as the main support has been included in the first phase of the construction project of Jiangsu universities'advantageous disciplines;Urban and Rural Planning has been included in the second,third and fourth phase construction projects of Jiangsu universities'advantageous disciplines;Architecture is a provincial key discipline in the period of"the 13th Five-Year Plan"and"the14th Five-Year Plan";Landscape Architecture is a provincial key discipline in the "12th Five-Year Plan"and "14th Five-Year Plan".The college has achieved full coverage of provincial advantageous or key disciplines.Urban and Rural Planning and Architecture have passed the national master's degree education professional evaluation.

The college owns Jiangsu University Philosophy and Social Science Key Research Base"Urban Development Think Tank";Jiangsu University Humanities and Social Science Off-campus Research Base "Suzhou National Historical and Cultural City Protection Research Institute"and "Suzhou Rural Revitalization (Urban-rural Integration Reform and Development)Research Institute";Jiangsu University Key Laboratory "Jiangsu Province Building Smart Energy Saving Key Laboratory";Jiangsu Engineering Research Center "Jiangsu Province Building Carbon Neutral Technology Engineering Research Center".Together with Suzhou Municipal Government,the Smart City Research Institute and the Yangtze River Delta Human Settlement Environment Carbon Neutral Development Research Institute were established.

The college is an innovative experimental base for talent cultivation in higher education in Jiangsu Province.Architecture,Urban and Rural planning,and Landscape Architecture have all been selected as national first-class undergraduate major constructionsites,achieving full coverage of national first-class undergraduate majors.The majorofUrban and Rural Planning is also a national characteristic major,a pilot major for comprehensive reform of undergraduate majors of the Ministry of Education,a Class Abrand major of Jiangsu universities,a demonstration major of ideological and political courses in Jiangsu Province,and a major of Jiangsu Province's Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program 2.0;the architecture major is included in the Ministry

1of Education's Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program,and a brand major of Jiangsu Province's industry-education integration.

The college currently has 130 faculty members.Among the faculty,there are 3 foreign academicians of Russian engineering,national engineering survey and design masters,national specially-appointed experts,etc.,more than 10 provincial and ministerial experts including members of the Education Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education,experts of the Expert Committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-RuralDevelopment,leading talents of the Ministry of Self-financing,young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in the province,second-level talents of the provincial"333 High-level Talent Training Project",and provincial teaching masters and 1 provincial excellent teaching team.The college has also hired nearly 30 part-timeprofessors,including national engineering design masters,Jiangsu provincial designmasters and Jiangsu industrial professors,to fully participate in the college's discipline and professional construction and talent training.

The college's experimental center is a demonstration center for experimental teachingin higher education institutions in Jiangsu Province.It is equipped with more than 950sets of instruments and equipment with a total value of more than 31.2 million yuan,including 57 sets of equipment and instruments with a single-piece value of more than100,000 yuan.The experimental center has four sub-centers,including architectural physics,construction,digital technology and low-carbon technology.

The college insists on focusing on teaching,continuously deepening teaching reform,and steadily improving the quality of teaching.It has won many provincial special,first,and second prizes for teaching achievements.Students have won a large number ofhigh-level awards,including third place in the IFLA International Landscape DesignCompetition,first prize in the "Challenge Cup"National College Students'Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition,and the gold medal in the WUPENiCity Urban Design Competition.

Faculty members of the college have undertaken more than 50 national scientific research projects such as the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation,and have won many provincial and ministerial awards such as the "Jiangsu Science and Technology Award",the "Jiangsu Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award",and the "Huaxia Award".Faculty practice projects have won various awards including the National Excellent Design Award,the NationalExcellent Planning and Design Award,and the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Protection Award.

The college actively carries out international cooperation and exchanges.It has established long-term cooperative relations with Cardiff University in the UK,University ofNorth Carolina at Charlotte in the United States,IstitutoArchitettura di Venezia in Italy,Politecnico di Milano,Nagasaki University in Japan,and University of Adelaide inAustralia.It has widely carried out activities such as dual master's degree programs,excellent undergraduate exchange student programs,short visits,joint design teachingand cooperative scientific research.

The college has always adhered to correct political direction,earnestly implemented the fundamental task of cultivating morality and educating people,educating people for the CCP,and cultivating talents for our country.The students are active in thinking,high in quality and have many talents.It has built party and league special activity platforms such as the "Red Maple Student Party Member Service Center"and the "Qingzhu Youth Study Society",established several outstanding societies with social influence such as the "Boyu Youth Volunteer Association",formed special activity brands such as the "Jiangfeng Cultural and Art Festival",and the college's Architecture Association was rated as a "vibrant society"in national universities.
